Jakki: mosquito bite allergy :( Mega strong antibiotics for 8 days, cost me 35 euro ples another 15 for stronger repellent and creams. Absolutely gutted that i have to stay out of the sun and sea and sand which means I can’t wok on the beaches for a few days. I’m struggling with the pain until the medication kicks in and reduces the swelling and the ache.
Jakki: rachel’s mosquito bites .. We spent yesterday at the hospital in Rethymno as both Rachel and myself got a few nasty mosquito bites to add to the collection of mysterious insect nibbles we now sport! We were ‘examined’ in a glassed office in the main reception desk and people (patients) just kept coming in, asked a few questions, wanted to know when it was their turn, trotted out - bizarre! the greek no queuing system applies in hospitals just as it does elsewhere! The doctors were very shocked by our bites, these are not usual for the region.

Jordan and leila - day off today which means a day at the pool :)
Jakki: spent my first day off with a beautiful hike through Mili Gorge to the scent of wild sage, thyme, and lemons. Perfect!
Jakki: leila: slideshow at the.gorgeous Blue Royal Spa hotel, made 25€, quiet night as hotel is suffering from poor Greek economic situation and the national extended taxi strike. I would love to stay at this hotel, very environment friendly and committed to supporting the local economy, v impressed!
Jordan and Leila - It may be a lot of work, but it sure is a lot of fun! :)
Delicious dinner of veggie risotto and a mango, feta and avocado salad - the Leeds met crew have raised the bar for sure!
Jakki: somehow I’ve always managed to avoid driving left hand drive cos it scares me silly but today I DID IT! Personal achievement number 1 done. Next one is to hold a cicada in my hand, gross! made 45€ at kiosk last night which is good, slideshow at a new hotel tonight where we need to make a good impression … I’m going to try really really hard …. Its in a posh spa and I’m rather hoping they’ll take pity on us and offer at least a foot spa!

Matala here again, good news we saved two hatchlings from a falcon… he wanted to eat them and we fended him off with a stick! quite literally! when we went back to put the nest shades up we saw two more emerging, they also made it to the sea!
On the PA front Horn made 40euros on K1, we are smashing last years sales!

Jakki Back on kiosk duty shift 4 7-10pm again. Not my favourite duty and i feel like I’m currently on night shifts with my rota’d duties at the moment. It was really great tho tonight to have lots of Greek tourists (and a few cretan locals) who wanted information about the turtles and our work. Its such a shame that more is not done to educate people about the wonders of nature and the uniqueness of their own country. I’m really glad i can help in even just a small way :)
